One reason to simplify this (apart to just avoid confusing naive ports committers like myself ;-) is that one can always check out individual ports with "cvs co libGL" and then build them, which generally works. In fact, of some 30 ports where I did this last weekend, only two failed -- libGL and libGLU. Okay to commit? I am running xorg, xdm and GNOME on a FreeBSD platform with 7.2 O/S I can ssh into this platform with putty from an XP PC at another location (IP number{both numbers static}) and perform command line operations ad lib. However, I cannot perform any graphic related operations from the PC. How can I set it up to display them, GNOME, graphics, GUI's, etc. on the PC? One way to do this is to set up an X-windows "server" (display manager) running on the PC under XP. Cygwin is one possibility, and the only free one that immediately comes to mind. There are also commercial offerings. Another way is to install one of the VNC server ports on the FreeBSD machine, and run a VNC viewer on the PC. I have these two drivers referred in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and linked to the Screen and ServerLayout sections, but nothing else. The default xorg.conf wants to load ati_drv which is unsuitable (ATI X1450). There might be some old patch files in the files/ directories laying around in my ports tree, since I just cp'ed the new files to /usr/ports. I didn't get any build errors however. Any clue?
