That's exactly what I did after posting my question--I installed the gems port and the rake port (rake suddenly disappeared as well). Please forgive me now as I express my frustration and dislike over the sudden disappearance of executables: I quite DISLIKE this as the "solution". Updating ports and rebuilding the same version of a port that's been in the tree for a long time SHOULD NOT suddenly remove a common executable that those relying on the port have come to expect to be present WITHOUT A BIG GIANT IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE WARNING while building or installing the port. This breaks so many automated scripts I have. How I get to update each one to check for the additional ports. UGH!!!! I HATE IT! I much prefer to update gems and rake on my own systems NOT using FreeBSD ports using "gem update --system && gem update" Thank you for your time and thank you for permitting me to vent on this top= ic. We're discussing the possibility of making lang/ruby19 to depend on ruby-gems and rake, thus having ruby19 installation automatically install rake and gem as well. But nobody did that yet. I agree tought that should have been done at the moment the gem binary was dropped from ruby19, but I think we just forgot about this at the end. -- Stanislav Sedov ST4096-RIPE () ascii ribbon campaign - against html e-mail /\ www.asciiribbon.org - against proprietary attachments From owner-freebsd-ruby@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 12 02:32:32 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: ruby@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7CED51065670; Sat, 12 Nov 2011 02:32:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from swills@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mouf.net (unknown [IPv6:2607:fc50:0:4400:216:3eff:fe69:33b2]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 328268FC13; Sat, 12 Nov 2011 02:32:32 +0000 (UTC) Received: from meatwad.mouf.net (cpe-024-162-230-236.nc.res.rr.com [24.162.230.236]) (authenticated bits=0) by mouf.net (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id pAC2WUNY088399 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-CAMELLIA256-SHA bits=256 verify=NOT); Fri, 11 Nov 2011 21:32:31 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from swills@FreeBSD.org) Message-ID: <4EBDDABE.5030304@FreeBSD.org> Date: Fri, 11 Nov 2011 21:32:30 -0500 From: Steve Wills User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD amd64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110531 Thunderbird/3.1.10 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Stanislav Sedov References: <20111111143115.5bf5d195.stas@FreeBSD.org> <20111111181823.089d72be.stas@FreeBSD.org> In-Reply-To: <20111111181823.089d72be.stas@FreeBSD.org> X-Enigmail-Version: 1.1.2 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="------------090002090102020705050404" X-Greylist: Sender succeeded SMTP AUTH, not delayed by milter-greylist-4.2.7 (mouf.net [204.109.58.86]); Fri, 11 Nov 2011 21:32:31 -0500 (EST) X-Virus-Scanned: clamav-milter 0.97.2 at mouf.net X-Virus-Status: Clean Cc: ruby@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: What changed?
