I don't think anyone was using it anymore, but I thought I should mention it anyway. RIP. This change does mean that we should get a bit more power out of the current server as we don't have to build the cvsup file "database" anymore. I'm currently also working on setting up our new ftp-master server which has been sitting for way too long. The new server should have significantly better performance than current ftp-master. I hope to switch it over in the next two week but I don't know for sure yet. If I do manage to get it done it will mean some downtime for ftp-master while I do the final sync etc. If anyone have specific requests of when I should not do this, please let me know. When I will pull the trigger I will send a mail but there will likely not be a lot of advance warning... unfortunately my/our time is rather limited so I have to do stuff when I can see a window of free time. -- Simon L. And is it right, that current ftp-master has 2 TB, but it is still used under 1 TB because of unknown capacity on mirrors? Finally, I can switch to 64bit mode in the future. There is currently 3.2 TB disk space, 2 x Intel Xeon E5335 2.0 GHz (2 x 4 cores), 4 GB RAM and 10 GbE connectivity (it is almost impossible to go over 1 GbE, but it is nice to have 10 GbE ;o). And some tuning to try to increase download speeds, but I'm not sure about their effects. I notified everyone we could find before I turned that off, but I obviously missed you. We're in the process of decommissioning the current ftp.uk.freebsd.org - it's been over 14 years, and several jobs later I've just really run out of time to really look after the tons of mirrors we used to run. As someone else commented earlier, cvsup.plig.net was also decommissioned a while ago, for similar reasons. I've requested for the DNS to be redirected a while ago, and have been promised it's in progress. rsync is turned on again for now, I'll hopefully be able to leave it running until Joe gets round to sorting out the DNS. I hope someone else will take up the cause and replace ftp.uk.freebsd.org! - Christiaan for *.plig.net From owner-freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jan 24 16:47:50 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 61C261065675 for ; Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:47:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from joe@tao.org.uk) Received: from alpha.tao.org.uk (alpha.tao.org.uk [95.154.203.106]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 261328FC15 for ; Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:47:48 +0000 (UTC) Received: from localhost (alpha.tao.org.uk [95.154.203.106]) by alpha.tao.org.uk (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6AF6F17D0B; Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:32:36 +0000 (GMT) Received: from alpha.tao.org.uk ([95.154.203.106]) by localhost (mail.tao.org.uk [95.154.203.106]) (amavisd-maia, port 10024) with LMTP id 07192-09; Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:32:35 +0000 (GMT) Received: from [172.20.10.3] (unknown [82.132.213.61]) (Authenticated sender: joemail@alpha.tao.org.uk) by alpha.tao.org.uk (Postfix) with ESMTPA id CCE7917D06; Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:32:34 +0000 (GMT) Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v1251.1) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 From: Dr Josef Karthauser In-Reply-To: <4F1EC9FC.9040301@bytemark.co.uk> Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:24:45 +0000 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Message-Id: <27BFC5EE-24F0-4B0C-9EF9-0A8E66C04A44@tao.org.uk> References: <4F1EC9FC.9040301@bytemark.co.uk> To: James Lawrie X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.1251.1) X-Virus-Scanned: Maia Mailguard 1.0.2a Cc: FreeBSD Hubs Subject: Re: Bytemark Mirror X-BeenThere: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: "FreeBSD Distributions Hubs: mail sup ftp" List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:47:50 -0000 On 24 Jan 2012, at 15:10, James Lawrie wrote: > Hi, >=20 > I've emailed mirror-admin about this as well but I'm not sure if that = was the right place. >=20 > We're getting a connection refused error from our mirror = (212.110.161.69) to ftp.uk.freebsd.org.
