Just a side note. I have possibly a same situation but with different outcome. In my case I use Enlightenment 17 and my desktop hangs having thunderbird or firefox in uwait. When I kill such offending process Enlightenment dumps core and exits. This thing manifests for me when a lot of windows are created and destroyed (like confirmations or so). If I turn full screen composing off the error vanishes. My video card is GeForce 8500 GT. I know this is not much, but it looks like in my case firefox is not the offender but rather a victim. I haven't filed a pr because it could me my imagination or my dirty hands somewhere... -- Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow. Found that if I looked into the thunderbird build then I was getting core dumps during the install stage, and that may have messed things up in the package files (not sure). I was running my world without clang, so this was thunderbird built with gcc. I have portmaster set to hide the build ( -H option ), and the coredumps were really easy to see as they showed up on the terminal rather than in the log. I believe it was hitting SIGBUS. I haven't been able to upgrade thunderbird yet. I installed clang and ran into a different problem with clang actually crashing during the build. Haven't had the time to chase it further yet. Is your thunderbird being built with gcc or clang? I got thunderbird to build by either disabling all optimization (undef the CFLAGS, I set in my make.conf and unselect config option OPTIMIZED_CFLAGS) or using clang 3.2 from ports. The only thing outstanding though is enigmail extension is broken.....never mind, the missing files it complains about are supposed to be missing since those are for thunderbird versions < 19. For some reason it had forgotten that it had found gpg on its own before. Setting and unsetting, the override made it find it on its own again. In case its important, I have CFLAGS= -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe near the top of my /etc/make.conf And, this is what I put in to use ports clang (3.2) instead of base (3.1). .if ${.CURDIR:M*/mail/thunderbird} CXX=/usr/local/bin/clang++ CC=/usr/local/bin/clang .endif Finally, I had to figure out why I couldn't send from Thunderbird. Which I eventually tracked down to an old extension "SendWithoutSubject". -- Name: Lawrence "The Dreamer" Chen Email: beastie@tardisi.com Snail: 1530 College Ave, A5 Blog: http://lawrencechen.net Manhattan, KS 66502-2768 Phone: 785-789-4132
