The good news is that the amdgpu driver successfully attaches and initializes on an R9 Nano (Fiji / GCN 1.2). The bad news is that the user level X bits don't quite work yet. Maybe someone more familiar with libdrm can fix those bits while I move on to fix AGP support on i915/4.6. Thanks. [New LWP 100716] Core was generated by `Xorg'. It compiles and works fine with syscons (I haven't tried to use it with VT), and with xserver 1.18.3 and KDE 4.14.3. I am running FreeBSD 10.3 stable r302020 However, while recompiling virtualbox-ose 4.3.38_1, I encountered an error related to the nvidia-driver. From my limited understanding, the trouble is with the supplied libnvidia-glcore.so.1 blob from Nvidia, so it is nothing FreeBSD can do at its end. Virtualbox failed to compile and stopped at checking for mesa / GLU. When I checked the configure.log I found this issue at the end of it... ***** Checking Mesa / GLU ***** compiling the following source file: #include #include #include #include ...bla bla bla clipped... } printf("found (inactive), OK.\n"); return 0; } using the following command line: clang++37 -g -O -Wall -o /usr/ports/emulators/virtualbox-ose/work/VirtualBox-4.3.38/.tmp_out /usr/ports/emulators/virtualbox-ose/work/VirtualBox-4.3.38/.tmp_src.cc "-L/usr/X11R6/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib64 -L/usr/local/lib -lXext -lX11 -lGL -I/usr/local/include" //usr/local/lib/libnvidia-glcore.so.1: undefined reference to `nv_vasprintf_alloc' //usr/local/lib/libnvidia-glcore.so.1: undefined reference to `nv_vasprintf_free' //usr/local/lib/libnvidia-glcore.so.1: undefined reference to `nv_vasprintf_vsnprintf' clang-3.7: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation) So my understanding is that it is an undefined reference issue with the supplied libnvidia-glcore.so.1 blob from the driver itself. If so, who should I contact from nvidia to report the issue? I looked at their FreeBSD developer board and it hasn't been active for 11 months. I know the community is trying to get the driver updated so they can finally land xserver 1.18 in the ports tree. This looks like an issue that needs to be fixed by nvidia now. Thank you all for your time. This doesn't really make sense. Some of the LinuxKPI changes needed for DRM2 are bugfixes of existing LinuxKPI code. If it was only extensions to the existing APIs, maybe they could be layered. But I don't think anyone considers existing LinuxKPI code completely bug-free. I have an old game (CivCTP2), which runs under Linuxalator. It worked fine for me on this box with ATI Radeon HD 5670, running in full-screen mode with 1600x1200 resolution on one of the monitors. The other monitor remained usable for other purposes. Then, at some point -- and I don't play often enough to be able to say precisely when -- the following problems appeared... The game still starts, but: 1. Asking for full screen switches resolution from 1600x1200 to 1024x768. 2. My two monitors begin to copy each other -- instead of game running one one leaving the other alone. 3. Upon exiting the game, the resolution usually resets back to 1600x1200, but the monitors continue to copy each other -- I have to use xrandr manually to get back to normal. Neither the hardware changed, nor the game's binaries. The game's executable is linked statically. There is also a dynamically-linked version, but it was never usable, because our linux-emulation ports never provided the SDL-libraries old enough for this program. Any ideas/suggestions for how I can make the game work properly again? I really do not want to downgrade the video-driver (currently on xf86-video-ati-7.5.0_3) or Xorg... Thanks! Good news! The update from PC-BSD 11.0-CURRENTMAY2016 to 11.0-CURRENTJUNE2016, then (today) another round of updates from the PC-BSD repository and now, the HP EliteBook 850 G2 notebook: * works with the Intel 3D-enabled driver * responds to xbrightness(1). Thanks to everyone who helped to make those things happen. It's not very obvious that users need to add themselves to the "video" g= roup for 3D acceleration to work. 2. The documentation states that users can add themselves to either the "vi= deo" or "wheel" group. In my case, I was already part of the wheel group, and I needed to specifically add myself to the video group to enable 3D accelerat= ion (i915 on FreeBSD-11 CURRENT). If it's not a bug that users need to specifically be part of the video grou= p, then I think we need to enable 3D acceleration for anyone in the wheel grou= p as well.
