The Microsoft supplied config waits 300 seconds= for the UFS partitions, and I hadnt realised ZFS didnt respect this until a num= ber of my machines became unresponsive after an upgrade to 11. Booting off USB sticks is not that critical, but an inability to boot cloud machines impacts us severely, and I would expect also impacts other people = too. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Mon Mar 13 18:55:44 2017 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B0ADFD0A1C0 for ; Mon, 13 Mar 2017 18:55:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 9FBB61889 for ; Mon, 13 Mar 2017 18:55:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id v2DIti5Z024565 for ; Mon, 13 Mar 2017 18:55:44 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 208882] zfs root filesystem mount failure on startup in FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE if USB hdd with zpool is attached to another port Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2017 18:55:44 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 10.3-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: trasz@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-fs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-fs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: Filesystems List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2017 18:55:44 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D208882 Edward Tomasz Napierala changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |trasz@FreeBSD.org --- Comment #8 from Edward Tomasz Napierala --- To be honest, I think it should be fixed in ZFS and not in the mountroot co= de.=20 If you look at the failing dmesg, you'll see that the mountroot already does wait for USB enumeration, just as expected: Apr 18 12:57:09 carrot kernel: Root mount waiting for: usbus0 Apr 18 12:57:09 carrot kernel: Root mount waiting for: usbus0 Apr 18 12:57:09 carrot kernel: ugen0.8: at usbus0 Apr 18 12:57:09 carrot kernel: umass0: on usbus0 Apr 18 12:57:09 carrot kernel: umass0: SCSI over Bulk-Only; quirks =3D 0x0= 100 Apr 18 12:57:09 carrot kernel: umass0:1:0:-1: Attached to scbus1 Apr 18 12:57:09 carrot kernel: Trying to mount root from zfs:zroot/ROOT/def= ault []... This must be a multiple of the intrinsic block size of the device. The secondary issue is that LBA calculation does not check reminder from division. This fix does check the provided buffer size and if we read less than media sector size or the read offset is not aligned to sector boundary, we allocate bounce buffer and perform the read by single sector. In the krpc it is very hard to tell when the data= structures (that hold the mutexes) can be safely free'd. Code like xprt_unregister() g= et called asynchronously and lock a mutex as soon as called. (The crash fixed by r313735 was a prematurely free'd mutex that xprt_unregi= ster() used, but on the server side.) I'll look at the code as see if I can figure out how to delay freeing the s= tructure without leaving it allocated "forever". (I'll admit I've been tempted to just never= free it, since the memory leak this would cause would be small enough nothing would really= notice it. And, of course for your case of shutdown, it would be harmless to just = not free it.) rick ________________________________________ From: Larry Rosenman Sent: Thursday, March 16, 2017 7:46:51 PM To: Rick Macklem; freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Cc: freebsd-current@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: crash: umount_nfs: Current Err, I=92m at r315289=85. -- Larry Rosenman http://www.lerctr.org/~ler Phone: +1 214-642-9640 E-Mail: ler@lerctr.org US Mail: 17716 Limpia Crk, Round Rock, TX 78664-7281 On 3/16/17, 5:51 PM, "Rick Macklem" wrote: I believe the cause of this crash was fixed by a recent commit to head r313735 (which was MFC'd to stable/11 and stable/10). rick ________________________________________ From: owner-freebsd-current@freebsd.org on behalf of Larry Rosenman Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2017 10:44:33 PM To: freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Cc: freebsd-current@FreeBSD.org Subject: crash: umount_nfs: Current Recent current, playing with new FreeNAS Corral, client is FreeBSD -CUR= RENT.
