When I had physical access, I tried to log in using the video console, but that didn't work either. I was able to use ^T to try and see what was going on, and login(1) reported that it was waiting on [dp->dp_spaceavail_cv]. I poked it periodically for several minutes, but it was unchanged. I ultimately gave up and used -- to trigger the ACPI shutdown hook, but that hung also - specifically, trying to write entropy. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a vmcore. But, it looks like there is only one place which waits on that: sys/cddl/contrib/opensolaris/uts/common/fs/zfs/dmu_tx.c: dmu_tx_wait() On the way back up, it took an inordinately long time to mount the local filesystems (~10 minutes, when it typically takes <1 second), with significant drive activity. The good news is that it *did* eventually mount, and `zfs scrub' didn't show any errors on either pool. Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there in case anyone has any thoughts. Thanks, Ravi (rpokala@) From owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Sun Feb 3 05:39:01 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6B79E14B6E8E for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:39:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 03C4684902 for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:39:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id AEA1114B6E8D; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:39:00 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9D2F214B6E8C for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:39:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 3A8E1848FD for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:39:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 6182210B35 for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:38:59 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id x135cx9b002177 for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:38:59 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id x135cx4J002176 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:38:59 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 229670] Too many vnodes causes ZFS ARC to exceed limit vfs.zfs.arc_max (high ARC "Other" usage) Date: Sun, 03 Feb 2019 05:38:59 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: leif@ofWilsonCreek.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: fs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-fs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Filesystems List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 03 Feb 2019 05:39:01 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D229670 --- Comment #17 from Leif Pedersen --- In 11, I could lower vfs.zfs.arc_max without rebooting. If I lowered it bel= ow the current allocation, it'd whack out a bunch of cached data to get within= the new setting (maxvnodes problem notwithstanding). In 12, it seems I can't lower it below the current allocation. In practice, this means one will rarely be able to lower it without rebooting (since one wouldn't be trying to lower it on a running system unless it was already so large it was causing a problem). It was nice to be able to change it to make more room for hungry things like InnoDB without rebooting. Is that intentional? I guess there may be a good reason why, or maybe it ba= cks off automatically better than in 11? --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Sun Feb 3 05:21:37 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D1ABE14B6264 for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:21:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6CD7B83BC9 for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:21:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 2FC8014B6263; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:21:37 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0AF8914B6261 for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:21:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 9821383BC6 for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:21:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id ABD4B1088F for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:21:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id x135LZab068699 for ; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:21:35 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id x135LZJ9068698 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 3 Feb 2019 05:21:35 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 229670] Too many vnodes causes ZFS ARC to exceed limit vfs.zfs.arc_max (high ARC "Other" usage) Date: Sun, 03 Feb 2019 05:21:35 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: leif@ofWilsonCreek.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: fs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-fs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Filesystems List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 03 Feb 2019 05:21:38 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D229670 --- Comment #16 from Leif Pedersen --- After upgrading to 12 and letting a backup cycle run, it seems to be behavi= ng well with defaults. That is weird. I'm not a Kerberos guy, but this says that the server was able to handle the GSSAPI initialization token (basically a Kerberos session ticket + some GSSAPI gobbly gook), but the GSSAPI library doesn't return a principal name for the gss_accept_sec_context() even though it returns GSS_S_COMPLETE. What does this mean in Kerberos land? I have no idea. I can see two ways to handle it. 1 - Consider it a failed authentication. OR 2 - Map it to "nobody". Basically that principal name in client->cl_cname is looked up in the password database and, if it is not found, then the credentials of "nobody" are used instead of the credentials for the user in the password database. --> Since no entry in the password database gets "nobody", it seems that "no principal name" might get the same treatment? I think I'll generate a patch for #2 above and attach it to this PR#, although I have no way to test it. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Sat Feb 9 00:06:09 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 02CB214CF267 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 00:06:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8CFB97327A for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 00:06:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 4CD2114CF266; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 00:06:08 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 38FDF14CF264 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 00:06:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BCE4F73277 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 00:06:07 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id F23EE1D347 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 00:06:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id x19066WQ004983 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 00:06:06 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id x19066OE004976 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 00:06:06 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 235582] rpc_svc_gss / nfsd kernel panic Date: Sat, 09 Feb 2019 00:06:06 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: panic X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: rmacklem@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: fs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: attachments.created Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-fs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Filesystems List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 09 Feb 2019 00:06:09 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D235582 --- Comment #6 from Rick Macklem --- Created attachment 201858 --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=3D201858&action= =3Dedit fix srv side rpcsec_gss to handle NULL client principal name This patch modifies the server side RPCSEC_GSS so that it handles the case where gss_accept_sec_context() works for a client's token and returns GSS_S_COMPLETE but the client principal name is NULL. It uses a local clname instead of the one in client->cl_cname so that any race caused by multiple RPC requests with the same handle and GSS_S_CONTINUE_INIT will be handled. (gss_release_name() sets client->cl_cname NULL and that could have resulted in the crash if multiple RPCs were received and handled concurrently as above.) I didn't think that gss_accept_sec_context() ever returned GSS_S_CONTINUE_INIT for Kerberos mechanism, but I could be wrong on this and if this does happen and the client erroneously sends the next token RPC twice, it could try to use client->cl_cname after it is set NULL by the gss_release_name() for the previous RPC message. The printf()s should tell us more about how the NULL cname happens. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Sat Feb 9 10:44:10 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2C8D714DD935 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 10:44:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BA2778D709 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 10:44:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 7E2D514DD934; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 10:44:09 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6A1AA14DD933 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 10:44:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id DFB2B8D705 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 10:44:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id F181A3112 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 10:44:07 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id x19Ai7fF044952 for ; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 10:44:07 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id x19Ai7DG044951 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 9 Feb 2019 10:44:07 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 235582] rpc_svc_gss / nfsd kernel panic Date: Sat, 09 Feb 2019 10:44:08 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: panic X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: peter.x.eriksson@liu.se X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: fs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-fs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Filesystems List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 09 Feb 2019 10:44:10 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D235582 --- Comment #8 from Peter Eriksson --- I'll try out the proposed fixes. This could result in svc_rpc_gss_timeout_client() freeing it just after being linked into the list. 2 - Related to #1, cl_refs is initialized to 1 and then incremented by refcount_acquire() after svc_rpc_gss_create_client() returns it, leaving a window where cl_refs could be decremented to 0 and free'd. This patch makes two changes to svc_rpc_gss_create_client(): - Move the code that initializes cl_expiration to before where it is linked into the list, so that it is set before it is visible to other threads. - Initialize cl_refs to 2, so a refcount_acquire() is not needed after the svc_rpc_gss_create_client() call. These races could allow the structure to be free'd when it is still being used in svc_rpc_gss(). This patch can be applied separately from #201862. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
