I got the information you asked: IDE disk 0 WD 814Mb cyls: 1654 - heads: 16 - sec: 63 - WPcom: 65535 IDE disk 1 WD 203Mb cyls: 989 - heads: 12 - sec: 35 - WPcom: 65535 Both disks are on the primary IDE (disk0 is Master disk1 is Slave). I did one more experiment: I copied the FREEBSD DOS files on a PRIMARY DOS partition allocated at the bottom (112Mb) of DISK1 (I used DISK0 before) then tried installing again from this media, but got exactly the same problem. I could not see the message you refer to in your note: first indication of the problem is gunzip complaints about wrong checksum when accessing bin/aa distribution file, then all the others follow.... Sounds like I should borrow a SCSI CD-rom to attach to my ADAPTEC 1510! Thanks a lot for your help. Pls keep me informed on your investigations. Good bye. Marcello.
