After enabling atapi udma in /boot/loader.conf as follows: userconfig_script_load="YES" hw.ata.atapi_dma="1" I see the following in the boot messages: acd1: DVD-R at ata1-slave UDMA66 (Full dmesg text below) The drive does not function in this mode, but produces I/O errors for all operations.
