Well, sorry for the lack of comments :)  I did not want to comment
before I'd tested your patches, and I lacked the time to do so;
now that you've committed them, they look just fine :)

To the original poster:  Update your ports collection, the mysql323-server
port now comes with Berkeley DB support.
