Any hints would be greatly appreciated. the "canonical" answer is to have a look at the open Problem Report database (PR database), which you can find at <http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi> - the list is quite long) (and perhaps get in touch with one of the committers of FreeBSD) then, find a PR with a title you like, and investigate (and then have a solution, as a patch to a version of FreeBSD). the preferred way to submit patches is toward the -Current version of FreeBSD, but this version can be tricky to even use, so a patch toward the -Stable version is also very valuable.
