Apparently cclient was registered as cclient-numericsuffix. pkg_delete reported that cclient wasn't installed. I went to /var/db/pkg/ and found that client-numericsuffix was present. Ran pkg_delete again for cclient-numericsuffix, then make clean in pine4.40. Pine 4.40 built sucessfully.
