Be sure that you do NOT start xmgrace, while
there is a "gracerc.user" in the 'pwd' (current
directory); because that prevents the loading
of ~/.grace/gracerc.user , which then may give
you the impression that all is OK.

For me, I still get the same error, even without
the port's Makefile.
