For writing GUI applications within FreeBSD, I find the TCL/TK environment 
preferable.  Development seems a good bit faster, and small applications 
start much more quickly - the Java VM seems to take forever to load, and 
this is quite a nuisance with apps that are used frequently.

TCL/TK is already available as a package, and can be set up as part of a 
base system more easily than Java, as it is at present, anyway.

I think java is a great way to go if your going to do GUI's.

The less bloat the better. I don't want to se FreeBSD start down the road
towards windows(tm) land. ICK!
