Okay, silly me, I didn't think to check if 5.0 supports 386 as is....
I fell back on a 4.2-release disk--- tried to install, and it failed.

Tried an old DOS boot disk-- it failed.

It appears my 386 has issues greater than FreeBSD compatibility... I think
the motherboard has given up.

We have a few 386s at school that aren't being used... I'll ask about using
them.
(yes, they are Genuine 386DXs... already checked.)

I've received some helpful suggestions in email about how to proceed once I
find a working 386.
Since I have an entire spring break to kill, I may as well do something
quasi-productive....
