>Description:
The version of GMT installed by the ports system, 3.4.1, is ancient. That version was released in March of 2002. The current version, released in October of 2007, is 4.2.1. See http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/gmt/gmt_releases.html for a list of all the releases that have happened since the one in the port.

The port is currently marked BROKEN because that old version of GMT wouldn't build on anything other than ix86 machines.

I did a simple build of the latest version using their "install form" on the web site and it worked fine --- but I'm on an ix86 machine so that is not especially telling, and perhaps it's still broken on other architectures.
