I had not done so with this -current, so I just did, but it
still makes no difference.  I now have 
	hw.ata.atapi_dma=0
in /boot/loader.conf.  Same ATAPI_RESET message and hang at
the DVD probe.

I also tried with and without media.  No difference either.
