My attempts to find anyone that wants to help maintain these contrib bits (and have the skills) have turned up zilch. Sorry you feel I am holding the project to ransom. But dealing with a 3 month old cycle of breakages just isn't in the least bit fun or even mildly enjoyable. Of course you mentioned you gave your Alpha away, so I know you aren't even trying to run FreeBSD on multiple platforms.
