It will, but you are going to hate it.  2.2.x won't use the UltraDMA
features of the drive.

Seriously, spend the money for SCSI.  If you're spending money on the box
another couple hundred isn't going to break you. Get an Adaptec 2940 or
Symbios 53c875 based card (like the Diamond FirePort 40) with an UltraWide
SCSI drive.
