I had almost the same problem. I've got an Optiplex GXpro 200MHz with a Adaptec 2940UW in it and the install process was a pain until I discovered that the built in NIC and the SCSI didnīt like eachother. What I finaly did was put the 2940-card in the first slot and rebooted. Then it worked like a clock. I'm not really sure here but I think that the Dell-thing has done something with the PCI-bus.
