No, that's wrong. FreeBSD is a decendent of 4.4BSD Lite-1. So is BSDi. 

           4.4BSD
           Lite-1
              |
             / \
            /   \
  FreeBSD 2.0    BSDi 2.0
		   
But sometimes code is shared between the two time to time.

Yeah, Linux is sort of a clone. It was written from scratch to be UNIX-like, 
while FreeBSD came directly out of UNIX.
