Subject: OS hangs when dumping /usr slice
Message-ID: <20011228103819.A490@mail.virginia.edu>

next in thread | raw e-mail | index | archive | help
I have 4.2 Release running on a Supermicro 370DLE mainboard, SMP kernel,
IDE hard drives and tape drive.

%df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/ad0s1a 48M 35M 9.4M 79% /
/dev/ad0s1f 9.2G 2.6G 5.8G 31% /usr
/dev/ad0s1e 8.7G 102M 7.9G 1% /var
procfs 4.0K 4.0K 0B 100% /proc

I can dump ad0s1a and ad0s1e to tape with no problem, but dumping
ad0s1f causes the system to hang. I thought it might be the tape
drive so I installed Amanda and tried backing up to a tape drive
on a different machine. I got the same results with Amanda.

I have unmounted and fsck'd ad0s1f and received no unusual output. I'm hoping someone
out there can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

I can't understand why a person will take a year or two to write a
novel when he can easily buy one for a few dollars.
