I saw something similar in another thread, which I also experienced,
when using a memstick "FIXIT"... maybe that hint also will help you:

When you discover the DVD disappear in sysinstall, try the menu item
"Options", and select the "Re-scan devices", and then go back to
whatever you is trying to do ;-)

(for the memstick issue, it is a known issue, but give it a try for the
DVD as well)
