Meet the ports. For an intro text on an external site (often best for
newbies), see
<http://www.32bitsonline.com/article.php3?file=issues/200003/bsdports&page=1>.

For a FreeBSD.org originated site, see
<http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/ports.html>.

If you have an internet connection on your FreeBSD box, you can let
"make" download the distribution. If you don't, download the .tar.gz
file yourself, and put it in the /usr/ports/distfiles directory, before
you do "make install", in the ports subdirectory of your package. I'm
not sure this is the poper way, but it works.

   HTH,
   Bart.
