The CHS values here specify 8 GB.  They're obviously wrong.

That's correct.  You should be setting this drive in LBA mode.  The
UDMA33 suggest that either you have the wrong cable, or UDMA66
negotiation was unsuccessful

This looks like a hardware problem.
