The fact that it's happening to a bunch of people suggests to me
that it is actually some strange problem. I tried messing around with a couple
of earlier version of locore.s (which phk kindly sent me) but had no joy. It
bothers me because two other machines (8Mb 486/66, 1542B, Barracuda + 32Mb
P5-75, 7840, hawk) work fine. My failing machine is a 486/66, 16Mb, 2 x IDE
drives.
