I guess you didn't get linked to the frontpage.

Go to http://www.freebsd.org and read up on what FreeBSD is.

To cut it short:

It's a BSD 4.4 Lite/2 derived free operating system (read Unix), as in
that the sources are free to get. They do have copyrights on them that
follow the BSD-style copyright.
