There have been several lengthy discussions about this topic already.
The amount of SPAM on the lists is manageable, so I think the general
consensus is that no radical measures are necessary.  In any case,
this topic probably belongs on -chat, if anywhere.

(FWIW, a newsgroup would be worse than mailing lists, given the number
of spambots on Usenet.)
