This leads to the fact that loss of carrier detect on a modem line does not hang up. Particularly annoying when using AutoPPP with preallocated IP addresses, as ppp never dies when no proper hangup occurs. >How-To-Repeat: Install mgetty on eg. ttyd1 in /etc/ttys to serve a modem. Set direct to NO in mgetty.config.
