I upgraded to 2.2.1 and since have had no problem(in other words I upgraded before I figured out what was wrong)...not much help but it might point you in the right direction. When I try to use xload as a regular user I get an error message that says permission denied to a km file of some sort. When I use it as root it is no problem.
