X via ssh doesn't require this flag (or even an X server to be
running on the remote machine), as the entire session is tunneled
through the secure shell mechanism and displayed on the local
machine's display.

G-der: Make sure XFree86 libraries are installed on the remote
machine and that /usr/X11R6/bin is in your $PATH when you ssh to
it.  If that doesn't help, run ssh in verbose mose (ssh -v) and
see if that provides any more information.
