Ok. I edited both files to list des rather than md5, but when I run 'passwd -l root' on my local box as a test I still appear to be getting an md5 password in the local master.passwd file. root:$1$/DW5l0iK$rVSJNci3lX3kfIa3w5bK50:0:0::0:0:Charlie &:/root:/bin/csh Suggestions?
