I am using the same card with the same settings that I do on my i386 fbsd machine, and the same kernel options... controller snd0 device sb0 at isa? port 0x220 irq 7 drq 1 When i boot this kernel, it doesn't seem to even probe for that hardware...if i remember correctly, even when i didn't have sound working properly on the i386 box it looked for it and just didnt' find it?
