Hi,

3c589 is in the kernel, and it works fine.  Perhaps you need to go into full 
screen kernel configuration mode after booting the install floppies and 
_disable_ all the existing network drivers.  Just because you do not see 
3c589 in this list does not mean it isn't there...disable all in the list 
there and Q to quit, and it should work.
