The hole > samba session just > freezes. After a qouple of seconds the thingy starts responding again. I get this when my upstream provider starts dropping packets. Sometimes the connection will freeze or just drop. I would try replacing the cable, the whole way through, from patch panel to switch/hub/whatever and then back to the PC. Good luck.
