Would you all just go read the damn 4.4 BSD manual page.  It is correct,
complete and accurate as to traditional BSD behavior.

r = raw
n = non-rewind
nr = non-rewind, raw

Block tape devices where raraely if ever used for anything, though
some rare beast like DECtape which had block replaceable writes
could pull some neat tricks using /dev/mt and careful coding.
