have heard some poor performance claims in this list in the past regarding adaptec... have recently been looking at iWill's site because they use the High Point HPT370 chip... don't have any other reference information regarding them though. As such, I am looking for a low end solution, preferrably IDE based for RAID on a FreeBSD 4.2 Stable box. Preferrably RAID 5 (or 4) but will consider a 0/1 solution with a spare. The end result should be a system where we can identify a failed drive, rip out and replace with fresh drive, and have it reconstruct the striping and mirroring over the new drive rebuilding the redundancy in case of another failure. Yes, we will be moving to a SCSI based solution in 6-9 months. Right now we want to make use of the IDE systems and drives we have laying around or can be cheaply obtained for the interim.
