No, I read the man page :-) I may be stupid, but I am not lazy :-)) = The man page also helpfully says "This man page may occasionally be out = of date" so, while it's a useful document, it is not necessarily the = final arbiter of correctness. What confused me was that /etc/default/make.conf had disappeared. Other replies have made it clear that the user is free to copy = /usr/share/examples/etc/make.conf to /etc/make.conf, and edit as = desired. What I am still unclear about is why the /etc/default/make.conf file has = disappeared in 5.x.
