Both. I connect to three isp's via dial up:

 isp one (university) -- Open VMS on Alpha plus SunOS servers
  using `login'

 set login "ABORT NO\\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 10 name:--name: **** word: **** > ppp"

 isp two (govt. industrial research org): FreeBSD servers using PAP

 isp three (software deve. firm): NT (recently Red Hat) servers using
  PAP

By the way, I think it would be useful to include a section in the
handbook on how to do this. It took me a while to realise that all I
had to do was include three different sections in /etc/ppp/ppp.conf
and to use three different versions of /etc/resolv.conf, i.e., /bin/cp
/etc/resolv.conf.isp /etc/resolv.conf each time I wanted to dial a
different isp.

Many regards,
