user_from_uid() is a wrapper around NSS, which was introduced in
FreeBSD 5. I'm not really prepared to help you diagnose a
performance regression with 10,000 uids, except to suggest that
you try removing the NIS entries from /etc/nsswitch.conf.
What do you mean by "doesn't work at all"? What does it do? Have
you tried a recent version of FreeBSD?
