Hi Phil,

I am not sure what your ptoblem is but...

- you can try to clean the head of the DDS drive with DDS cleaner cartridge.
- try *mt retension*, also

Altough I am not sure if tar will rewind the tape before it starts reading,
you can try: mt rewind and then tar ...
