It might be a good idea to create a separate ufs partition and save your downloaded files on it. And keep the partition unmounted unless you're reinstalling, that way if your system crashes the data on that partition wont be touched. That's what I do. Then, if I have to reinstall, I can do it off of that partition, which is much faster that downloading it all again or installing off of a FAT16 partition.
