I use the slides class in lyx.  It's great if you just need text. 
However, note that the notes-only and slides-only are broken, as the 
underlying latex class is broken.

I use these to make overhead slides for my classes, and the custom 
export with  "psnup -2 -h11in -w4.25in -Pletter | lpr" to get two per 
page on the left side for handouts.
