Do you happen to know which shells do this?  I suppose that using tcsh
and seeing the problem doesn't put that shell on the list :-).

Also, now that I know the problem, a simple
	ln -s /usr/obj/jaz/FreeSBD/current/src /usr/obj/usr/src
seems to work around the problem for me.
