Oops, this was also reviewed by jasone as well.  To be fair to both of them, I
made some additional changes (new MP sub-section and re-worded some of the
memory barrier section) after their reviews.  Any feedback as to the technical
accuracy and description of memory barriers and the MP section will be most
welcome.
