This wasn't a snipe at you for asking the question; I don't do that,
especially for things posted to questions.  Even generic UNIX questions
that should be answered in a different forum, like how do I get the
current directory in my prompt.

It was justification for calling it a FAQ, and for not posting it again
(the archives are large enough without yet another copy).
