I'm not at all sure why this is I *believe* this has been fixed already, but for you there is a very quick fix. Just cd to /usr/local/bin and `ln -s virtex latex'. If virtex is run as something other than virtex (eg latex), it uses the program name to indicate which format file to load up by default. -john
