There are various ways, explained in the Handbook. A lot of people tend to prefer CVSup. This, on a machine connected to the Internet, essentially boils down to: a) Become root. a.1) If not done before, install the latest package for cvsup. This will give you the CVSup client. b) Change your working directory to /usr/share/examples/cvsup c) Run cvsup to update the ports tree: # cvsup -g -L 2 -h cvsup.gr.freebsd.org ports-supfile Of course, you need to choose a CVSup server closer to you network-wise.
