-doc,

I received the following message very recently, and Deb's given me
permission to forward it on the -doc list at large.

This obviously reflects very well on every single contributor to the
FDP. In the day to day grind of maintaining and extending the FDP I
think it's all too easy to lose site of the quality of work that
everyone's put in to this project over the years, and messages like
this are a nice way of reminding ourselves how valuable and appreciated
our efforts are.

On a related note, I'd encourage everyone to go and read the OSWG
web site (URL's at the bottom of Deb's message) and if possible sign
up the mailing list. It's an attempt to bring the various documentation
projects closer together, and to act as a meeting point for authors
and readers of all the different *DPs to share ideas.

Cheers,

N

Hi Nik.

I've been poking around the FDP a bit. I just wanted to say that I think
you guys have done a fantastic job with that project, particularly with
the way it's organized and maintained. The project is approachable,
there's lots of information on the site about how people can get involved,
what they can do, and how they can do it. Etc.

I wish the LDP would take a lesson from the FDP.

Thanks, btw, for mentioning the FreeBSD Documentation Project Primer on
the OSWG list. The chapter on DocBook is the clearest presentation of
that information I've been able to find. The Project Primer, as a whole,
is very much like what I was envisioning when I mentioned the "New
Contributor's Guide" on the OSWG list. I wish I had seen your Primer at
that point, because I would have added a link to it as reference.

As always, if there's anything the OSWG can do to help you guys out, let
me know.

- deb

[intentional self-reference] can be easily accommodated using a blessed,
non-self-referential dummy head-node whose own object destructor severs
 the links.
