have just aquired several old machines, and was installing 4.4-<insert date
here>-STABLE on them over the weekend, when i got several signal 11s:

background: using the 4.4-RELEASE install floppies, installing from releng4 via
passive ftp

when the install is mostly complete, answering 'yes' to either linux emulation
or installation of the packages, the installer attempts to get an index of
packages from the server, which it apparently cannot find, and dies with a
signal 11.

this behavior is specific to the releng4 machine, if i select 4.4-STABLE and use
a different machine everything goes smoothly.

let me know if any further information would be usefull

ben

(sorry about the lotus notes generated crap at the top)
